Anita Mannings is a professional dancer, performer, choreographer and dance teacher who trained at Bodywork Company Cambridge where she received the “Choreographer's Award” and then at the prestigious Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Inspired by her musical theatre training, and her knowledge of a wealth of dance styles from ballet to hip-hop, Anita fuses different dance genres with storytelling to create poignant work often with a message.

She has worked on numerous projects including theatre, events, luxury brands and music videos and has taught at schools and dance studios across the UK and internationally.

Work includes choreographing for Siblu Villages France, Givenchy, Pineapple Dance Studios, The International Summer School in Kosovo, movement directing the tour of Naked Soldiers, Motus Dance and curating her own sold out show “On Paper” at the YATI Theatre in Islington.

On Paper was the title piece for Anita’s self produced show; A choreographic showcase which brought together emerging and established choreographers to present pieces inspired by the theme of hidden illness. On Paper tells the story of Anita’s personal journey with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a disorder where a person experiences chronic and often debilitating neurological symptoms. Danced to Runner by Dustin O’Halloran and a text written by Anita’s Father Richard Mannings and voiced by Anita.

Dare you to doubt me was a piece made for film, inspired by the constant rejection that most dancers, in particular females, experience in the dance industry. Influenced by and danced to the song of the same name by The Script, Anita wanted to shine a light on the harsh and sometimes inappropriate criticism that female dancers experience during professional training and their careers. In the video, you will witness true words that have been spoken by people during the dancer’s careers, but despite this they have kept going.

Parade - The Giant Wheel

Parade is a moving performance inspired by the beauty, power and impact of people from different walks of life coming together, featuring a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel powered by 5 dance artists and accompanied by music and large community cast of local groups and individual performers. Autin Dance Theatre uses its unique blend of contemporary storytelling, striking physicality and innovative large designs to transport audiences and communities along a carefully choreographed procession.

The 50-minute itinerant act is punctuated by 3 static moments that celebrate the tension and fracture between our individual identities and our shared collective humanity. Ultimately, Parade is about celebrating different journeys whilst honouring our shared life struggles.

The Giant Wheel carries the performers high above the streets, spins them around ferociously, turning their worlds upside down, at times giving them momentum and speed, and at others rocking them gently back and forth imitating the laborious and repetitive cycle of life.

Out Of The Deep Blue

OUT OF THE DEEP BLUE is an outdoor physical theatre performance featuring a 13-foot tall Puppet operated by 5 puppeteers and a female dancer.

This spectacle is designed specifically for family and festival audiences and tells the magical story of Eko, a sea giant who rises from the deep ocean and who encounters, on the shore, a courageous little girl called Violet.

The choreography is a larger-than-life ‘pas de deux’, which uses contemporary dance theatre and masterful puppeteering as storytelling tools, accompanied by a mesmerising soundscape.

The performance is in two-parts: a 25-minute promenade of the giant puppet interacting with the location, environment, architecture and the audience, and a 25-minute dance theatre duet located at a set performance space (traditionally the walkabout leads to static show).

Created in 2021, OUT OF THE DEEP BLUE has toured and continues to tour extensively across the UK and internationally. The show has visited over 95 festivals and performing to more than 760,000 audience members.

Street Games is an inclusive and accessible fun day of street games, live music and dance with BSL Performance and Interpretation.

Brimstone - the dragon

Brimstone – The Dragon is a roaming theatrical experience that sparks imagination, instils wonder, and imparts subtle lessons in a way that resonates with children and their families.

The 6-metre long Giant Dragon puppet designed by Mr Cleaver’s Monsters, is brought to life by 4 highly skilled puppeteers to tell the magical and adventurous story of Brimstone, a fearsome and misunderstood beast from a hidden island.

The interactive promenade adventure will involve the dragon, who will search high, low, around, and through the crowds and public spaces searching for his long-lost friend.

Zig Zag!

Zig Zag! is a light-hearted, non-verbal dance-theatre duet where two performers turn simple objects — dozens of wooden reels and bamboo rods — into a living landscape of choices. A rod becomes a line to cross, a bridge to share, or a rule to rethink; the reels roll, stack and scatter as obstacles, tools and meeting points. As lines are drawn and redrawn, they move from chaos to calm, connection to division, learning when to pause, repair and try again.    

Designed for families and mixed-age crowds (recommended 5+), the show blends crisp physical comedy, crafted object manipulations, and moments of partner acrobatics. It reads clearly at a distance with bold images, rhythmic pacing and audience-friendly beats: quick “this/that” prompts, echo-claps and blink-and-smile reveals. Portable, low/no-power and relaxed in tone, Zig Zag! suits village greens, high streets and school playgrounds. It’s a feel-good invitation to collaborate — to build, unbuild and build again — and to notice how small choices can shift the whole picture.

We present text in ways never-before experienced, holding space for words to learn their physical power.

Our work is story-driven and tender, often tracing the human experience through themes of grief, belonging and transformation.

A radical new dance adaptation of Max Porter’s award-winning novel.

In this 'poignant and vital' (One Dance U.K.) re-imagining of a timeless text, five dance performers take audiences on a journey of despair, humour, and resilience, in a highly charged and controversial new dance-theatre work.

Using the company’s distinct translation methods – now adapted for the stage – 'Grief Is the Thing with Feathers' tells the story of a father, his two sons, and the sudden loss of their wife and mother.

In their deepest moment of grief, 'Crow' appears - antagonist, trickster, babysitter - and the centre-point around which this dark, yet tender story about family and loss evolves.

THE ALLOTMENT PROJECT is a human, humorous & heartwarming performance that celebrates the joy of growing plants, food, and relationships. Mixing Documentary, Dance & Theatre, the show is inspired by interviews from allotment owners & community gardeners, combined with compelling movement to explore allotments and the communities around them!

THE ALLOTMENT PROJECT is presented in the round, and has a flexible, self-sufficent technical setup; making the work ideal for touring to a range of theatre spaces, and for presentation in rural settings, off-site, and in unusual locations - including on allotments.

PRESENTATION INFORMATION

The performance is available as a 20 minute 'half-plot' extract performance suitable for outdoor performance, or a 60 minute 'full-plot' performance suitable for indoor/outdoor/off-site/rural presentation.

“joyful dance games for everyone to play in public spaces!”

ARCADE is a new interactive performance with dance ‘games’, that animate public spaces - encouraging playful participation to connect people of all ages with the childlike joy of play - and each other!

Each performance ‘set’ lasts approximately 30 minutes and contains six unique games - each announced by The Gamesmaster.

With a fun and bouncy electronic soundtrack, these spontaneous choreographic games are elegantly played and facilitated by our friendly team of highly skilled performers - some games are mesmerising & fun to watch, others invite gentle playful participation.

Suitable for a range of public spaces from parks to high streets, ARCADE offers a joyful & accessible way to connect communities - bringing spaces to life with movement & play!

PRESENTATION INFORMATION

ARCADE is designed for public space (parks, squares, festivals) and is suitable for all surfaces (grass, concrete etc.) with no technical requirements from presenters. The show is scalable with a min 6x6m performance area and can be performed up to 4 times a day. No participant sign-up is required, games are ‘turn up & play’, simple and easy to engage with.

Games can be joined by the public for anything from 30 seconds in passing to a full round of a few minutes - and can be left at any time. We strive to make ARCADE as inclusive as possible with games focussing on play over competition to enable the widest possible participation!

"16:1" is an ongoing choreographic series, started during lockdown.

One single dancer records themselves 16 times with slight changes of counts or movements in the same choreography.

Editing all the videos together brings all patterns and canons alive, to create a digital piece of art.

These videos can be projected on walls, or can be on screens.

New videos can be made for your own venue and themes.

This project is still developing: it started as videos online, and it could become art installations should space and budget allow it.

Perception is an award-winning hip-hop theatre piece dealing with how we are all perceived by others. Exploring the invisible struggle for control and self-expression whilst maintaining a front that pretends everything is ok. Do you wonder how you are perceived by others? Do they see the front that you portray or the reality beneath the surface? We are often perceived in a certain way due to a front that is not a reality, the reality is we have lost control. At first we have to strip back the layers, discover the issue and bring it too light to then overpower and control it. Once this control is restored the path before us becomes clear.

The Garden is an immersive hip hop dance theatre experience that invites audiences into a world of self-discovery, choice and connection. Loosely drawing on the story of Adam and Eve, the work uses movement, light, and space to explore how we define ourselves in relation to others, and how identity shifts within human relationships.

Designed as a multi-room and space experience, The Garden transforms venues into invitations of discovery, making hip hop dance theatre accessible to audiences beyond a traditional theatrical setting.

Each performance features two dancers drawn from a rotating pool of four, ensuring that no two shows are the same. With performers representing a range of genders, ethnicities, and movement languages, the piece resists fixed narratives and binary roles, instead offering audiences a living, evolving dialogue of bodies, stories, and styles.

Enter a metaphorical universe in which all sense of time is lost, where characters evoke a surreal and swirling dreamlike state. Blurring the line between the real and the imaginary, Reverie invites audiences into a ‘fantasy-like’ world in which they might recognise their own emotions, phobias and behaviours. Reverie explores how memories and the past shape our collective narrative. Drawing inspiration from the use of archetypes in Lewis Carol’s Alice and Carl Jung’s theories on the subconscious, the work creates connections between the known and the unfamiliar to demonstrate how interchangeable these states can be.

What happens when your world falls apart? You descend into the underworld and reclaim your ruins, pick up your wrinkled thoughts. And then…

HOMECOMING blends storytelling, dynamic choreography, and cutting-edge technology to trace the journey of a woman searching for her lost sense of self. A ghost, trapped in an otherworldly limbo, searches desperately to reclaim its body. At its heart HOMECOMING is a meditation on identity, loss, and self-discovery. The work draws from the evocative imagery of Louise Bourgeois, whose Femme Maison series explores the entanglement of female identity with space, containment, and fragmentation, and Caravaggio’s striking chiaroscuro technique, where light and shadow carve out moments of revelation and emotional intensity. Shaped by these aesthetic influences, its world unfolds like a series of moving paintings.

Moonlight Dream - A Baby's Cosmic Odyssey

Moonlight Dream is a dance theatre production created for children aged 0-6 years and their caregivers. This heartwarming show draws inspiration from the comforting bedtime rituals and soothing evening stories that accompany their routines. Like a serene fable, Moonlight Dream explores the gentle transition into sleep, the sweet conclusion of the day, and the journey into the world of dreams. The performance is a sensory-rich journey that immerses audiences in a whimsical voyage to the moon and beyond, wrapped in the comforting power of lullabies and the calm of twilight. The story unfolds, following a young child who embarks on an imaginative adventure with two delightful companions: a nurturing bear and a playful fox. Together, they navigate the mysteries of the night sky, discovering shimmering stars, moonlit rivers, and magical oceans. The moon becomes a gentle guide for the young traveler until the long-anticipated sleep is finally achieved.

Bobak graduated from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2004 and has been blessed to work as a dance artist since then. In the most part co-creating, performing and choreographing for other’s projects and visions. Parallel to this he had the chance to go to the country where his mother was born, Iran. During these trips he was overwhelmed by how welcoming and hospitable the people were, not just family but people met on the street or through travel and dance.

At the same time Bobak was witnessing an increased narrative in the media of Islam equating to terrorism and the general rise of Islamophobia and a dehumanizing of people from the MENA (middle east and north Africa) region.

The rise of Donald Trump and personal problems faced through the U.S. Muslim ban played into this growing sense of unease. This lead Bobak to return to the studio on a mission to make difference. To start a more nuanced conversation, leading to the creation of this show, which Bobak’s proud to have made with support and help from a fantastic team.

Spoken word meets dance, live music meets clowning. An intimate spectacle of identity, where being British, Iranian, and a Hip-Hop head collide. From Bristol to the Tehran marathon and back again, Bobak invites us to join him on a journey to accept his own heritage, against a media culture which holds fast to the idea that the Middle East is a frightening and dangerous place. We can offer dance workshops as part of the show programming which can be provided to either dance experienced participants or complete novices.

We provide the participants with an uplifting endorphin release while also providing them with a toolbox they can tap into to help manage their mental health. Taira Foo has been working with mental health charity MIND UK providing these workshops to their service users.

The company's work stems from community engagement. We deliver workshops for dance professionals and students, but also to non-dancers and people living with an impairment or disability. We specialise in delivering dance activities tailored for Blind and visually impaired people. Interventions can be one-off classes, day-long workshops or week-long residencies with the option to work towards creating a community-based performance, that can be shared informally at the end of the residency or as curtain-raiser.

Fireflies at Dawn invites you to embark on a journey of discovery, where emotions take flight and senses awaken to the soft rustle of wings.

This enchanting dance theatre piece weaves together the threads of inclusivity, and self- expression, exploring the richness of our shared humanity and the strength found in our search for connection. This delicate interplay of sound and motion invites you to discover the living experience of blind and visually impaired people and to pay attention to how we connect to our senses, ourselves and others. Witness the power of vulnerability in this emotional and sensory show.

Co-created and performed by visually impaired and sighted dancers, Fireflies at Dawn continues the company's investigation into how and why we move and dance. The show uses embedded audio description, sounds, lights and touch as well as innovative new wearable technology, echome - to enhance movement perceptions for both performers and audiences alike.

Synopsis:

"The Keeper" is a poignant and thought-provoking short film that combines contemporary dance and comedy to shed light on the subject of mental health, specifically depression in men. Created by choreographer Sandrine Monin in collaboration with actor Paul Dunphy, this unique film delves into the profound impact of depression on everyday life and seemingly mundane activities.

In this heartfelt exploration, we meet a man confined to his flat, grappling with the harsh reality of depression. Through expressive dance sequences and moments of humor, "The Keeper" takes us on a journey into the depths of his emotional struggle. We witness his relentless fight against the debilitating effects of depression.
